Okay, so today I wanted to figure out how the pairings work for the Charles Schwab Pro-Am. I’ve always been a bit confused about how they put these things together, so I decided to finally get to the bottom of it.

First, I started by just hitting up Google. You know, the usual – typed in “Charles Schwab Pro-Am pairings” and prayed for something simple.
The first few results were just general tournament info, nothing specific about how they actually decide who plays with who. Feeling a little lost, I dug a bit deeper.
I scrolled through a bunch of articles, and it seemed like most of them were just listing past pairings, not explaining the process. Frustrating!
I thought, “Okay, maybe there’s some official rulebook or something?” So I headed to the official tournament website. Lots of flashy stuff, but still no clear explanation.
My Pairing Process Discovery
- I found some mentions of a “lottery system” for amateurs, which made sense.
- Then I realized that the pros probably get some say, or maybe the sponsors do, in who they play with. It’s all about connections, right?
- I figured it is complex.
Honestly, after all that searching, I’m still not 100% sure. I guess it’s a mix of a lottery for some, some VIP selections, and probably a bit of behind-the-scenes wrangling. Not the most satisfying answer, I know, but it’s the best I could come up with!

If anyone out there actually knows the full story, please, fill me in! For now, I’m going to assume it’s a carefully guarded secret, like the Colonel’s secret recipe or something.
