My Dive into Sam Arnold’s Numbers
So, the other day, I found myself going down a bit of a rabbit hole looking up Sam Arnold’s stats. It wasn’t for anything super serious, just got curious, you know? Sometimes you just want to see the actual numbers behind the talk.
I started off just searching his name, standard stuff. Hopped around a few of those big sports stats places online. It’s funny how sometimes you gotta look at two or three different spots to feel like you’re getting the whole picture, or at least, pieces that fit together.
First impressions? Well, you look at his time, especially early on with the Jets, and yeah, the numbers reflect a tough situation. Lots of pressure, not a ton of wins. The interception numbers jump out at you from that period. It’s hard to ignore.
Then I tried to track his progress. Moved over to his stats when he was with the Panthers. Saw some flashes here and there in the data. Like, okay, maybe a different system helped? But consistency seemed to be the thing the numbers kept pointing towards, or lack thereof sometimes.
Comparing Across Teams
I spent a good bit just comparing year over year, team by team. It’s kinda interesting laying it out:
- Completion Percentage: Saw some ups and downs. Never really hitting that elite tier consistently, based on what I saw.
- Touchdowns vs Interceptions: That ratio tells a story, doesn’t it? You could see periods where it looked better, then periods where it dipped again.
- Yards per Attempt: This one I always find interesting. Gives you a sense of how aggressive or conservative the passing game was. It varied quite a bit.
Then you get to his time as a backup, like with the 49ers or Vikings. Obviously, the playing time stats drop off massively there. You’re looking at very small sample sizes, hard to draw big conclusions from just a few throws here and there in relief.
My main takeaway? Looking purely at the stats I dug up, it painted a picture of a quarterback who definitely had the physical tools – you don’t get drafted that high otherwise. But the numbers showed inconsistency and struggles, especially early on. Later stints showed maybe some adaptation or different roles, but it wasn’t like a sudden massive turnaround story written in the stats, at least not from what I could piece together.
It was just an afternoon of digging, really. Didn’t change my life, but satisfied my curiosity. Sometimes just looking at the raw stats yourself gives you a different feel than just hearing the commentators talk, you know?
