Okay, so, I got my hands on a VTX1800 the other day. I’d always heard about these beasts, but never actually ridden one. This one was a type C model, the one with the two-into-one exhaust. Pretty slick looking, I gotta admit. And that speedometer? Right there in the handlebar risers. Different from the others with their tank-mounted speedos. Cool touch.

First off, let me just say, this thing is a monster. I mean, I knew it was a big bike, but wow. Just sitting on it, you feel the weight. But it’s not a bad weight, you know? It feels… solid. Planted. Like it’s not going anywhere unless you tell it to.
So, I fired it up. The rumble is just…intoxicating. I took it out for a spin, just around the block at first. Getting a feel for it. The power delivery is smooth, but it’s always there, waiting. Like a coiled spring. You twist that throttle, and it just goes. No hesitation.
- Power: I rode out of the city. And let me tell you. It’s a powerful machine! But I don’t think that it’s a bad thing.
- Exhaust: It has two-into-one exhaust system. All the other models had staggered dual exhausts.
- Speedometer: It was mounted within the handlebar risers. So cool.
I took it out on the highway, opened it up a bit. This is where the VTX1800 really shines. It just cruises. Eats up the miles. I had it up to… well, let’s just say I was respecting the speed limit. But it felt like it could do so much more.
Now, I’ve heard some folks say this bike failed. And I don’t know about that, it’s just a rumor. But from what I experienced. It’s a fantastic motorcycle. It did everything I asked of it and then some.
I ended up riding it all day. Just exploring, getting lost on some back roads. Didn’t even realize how much time had passed. That’s the sign of a good bike, right? When you lose track of time because you’re having so much fun.

I know someone took his VTX1800 in for it’s 8k service and took a new one for a ride. It has floorboards. I’m not sure about that, maybe I will have a try next time.
So, yeah, the VTX1800. It’s a beast. It’s a cruiser. It’s a whole lot of fun. If you ever get a chance to ride one, do it. You won’t regret it.
Oh, one more thing. I know a guy at the service station who can get parts for these things, so if you are finding difficulty getting your VTX1800 repaired, hit me up. My buddy might be able to help you out. This thing is just a great bike, don’t let it sit idly in the garage.
My Suggestion
Go ride one!
