OK, let’s talk about golf course grass. I’ve been doing some digging lately, trying to figure out what kind of grass they actually use on those fancy greens. You know, the ones that look so perfect on TV. It’s not as straightforward as you might think!
First, I started by just trying to identify the different types of grass. Sounds simple, right? Well, it turns out it’s a bit of a pain. Apparently, the pros look at things like the width of the leaf, how it’s folded, the shape of the tip, and even the color. And get this – they even feel it to see if it’s soft or hard! Who knew?
So, after messing around with that for a while, I moved on to the real question: what do golf courses actually use? From what I gathered, there are a few main types.
- Bentgrass seems to be a big one, especially in colder places. I guess it can handle the chilly weather better than other types.
- Bermudagrass is another popular choice, but it seems to like the warmer climates. Makes sense, I suppose.
- Then there’s this thing called Zoysia. Some folks are saying the newer versions of it are pretty good because they don’t get sick as easily and don’t need as much fussing over.
Honestly, there is no one-size-fits-all answer. It really depends on where the golf course is and what kind of weather they get.
Anyway, that’s what I’ve found out so far. It’s been a bit of a learning curve, but hey, at least now I have a better idea of what’s going on under those golfers’ feet!
I tried to do all of these things above to identify grass, it is really a tough task for me.
If you ask me which one is best? I will definitely choose Zoysia, and less maintain work is needed.
My Choice
If I were to build my own golf course, I definitely go with Zoysia. Not only does it require less maintenance, but it’s also more resistant to diseases. Plus, I wouldn’t have to worry about it as much during those harsh winter months.
