So, you guys won’t believe what happened to me a while back. I’ve been keeping it under wraps, but it’s time to spill the beans. It’s a story about me, Aaron Gordon, and a dog incident. Yeah, you heard that right.

It all went down on Christmas day, 2023. I was at home, just chilling, you know, enjoying the holiday vibes. I’ve got this Rottweiler, a big fella, been with me for about four years now. We’re usually cool, no issues.
But on this particular day, things took a turn. I was messing around with him, playing a bit rough maybe, and bam! He just snapped. It happened so fast, I didn’t even see it coming. Next thing I know, he’s got my hand and part of my face in his mouth. Hurt like hell, I won’t lie.
I ended up needing 21 stitches. 21! My shooting hand and my face, man. It was a mess. I was out for a couple of games, which sucked. The team, the Denver Nuggets, they made it public, said I had this “unfortunate incident” with a dog. They didn’t name names, but it was my own damn dog.
Here’s the kicker: This wasn’t some random stray that attacked me. It was my own Rottweiler. The one I adopted and thought I had a good connection with. We had met plenty of times before, hung out, played fetch, the whole nine yards. I thought I was so great, and then my dog just chomped me.
I guess I learned a lesson that day. Even with your own pets, you gotta be careful. They can be unpredictable, you know? I mean, I was just playing with him like I always do, but maybe I pushed him too far or something.

I love this dog, seriously. I felt so bad, and I was super bummed to have missed a couple of games. It’s really a bummer, but things are better now, and I’m back on the court.
It was rough for a while, having to explain to everyone what happened. People were shocked, obviously. “Aaron Gordon got bit by his own dog? No way!” That’s what everyone was saying. I was feeling a bit embarrassed, it’s a bit ridiculous, but I got through it. Kept my mouth shut and kept working hard.
- Christmas Day: The day it all went down.
- 21 Stitches: The damage count.
- Rottweiler: My dog’s breed.
- Four Years: How long I’ve had him.
- Two Games: How many I missed.
Anyway, that’s my story. Thought I’d share it with you guys. It’s a reminder to always be careful around animals, even the ones you think you know well. It was a crazy experience, but hey, I’m still here, still playing, and that’s what matters, right?
