Alright, let’s dive into this Pokemon type matchup thing. So, the question was: “what pokemon type is good against water?” I remember when my little cousin asked me the same thing and honestly I drew a blank for a sec. Hadn’t played seriously since like, Ruby and Sapphire days.

I figured, alright, time to do some research and maybe even fire up the old emulator. First stop, the internet, obviously. I searched around and saw a bunch of charts, type matchups, the whole shebang. Pretty clear that Electric and Grass are the main contenders here. Seemed simple enough, but I wanted to test this out myself.
So I did. I installed an emulator on my phone and downloaded a copy of Pokemon Emerald. Gotta get that nostalgia hit, ya know? I started a new game, grabbed my Mudkip (ironic, I know!), and started battling. I wanted to see firsthand how these matchups played out.
I spent a couple of hours grinding and catching some Pokemon. Managed to snag a Pikachu early on, which was perfect. I also caught a Bellsprout and evolved it into a Weepinbell. Now I had my Electric and Grass-types ready to go.
Then I started seeking out water-type trainers and wild Pokemon. Used Pikachu’s Thundershock and Thunderbolt against them. And boy, did it wreck ’em! The “super effective” message popped up every time. It was pretty satisfying, I won’t lie.
Next, I threw Weepinbell into the mix and used Razor Leaf. Same deal! Super effective damage all over the place. I even tried using Vine Whip, just to mix things up. Worked like a charm.

But I didn’t stop there. I wanted to see why these types were effective. I dug a bit deeper and found out that Electric-type moves can conduct through water, and Grass-type moves can absorb water, so it makes sense in a weird Pokemon logic way.
So yeah, after all that, I can confidently say that Electric and Grass-type moves are super effective against Water-type Pokemon. It was a fun little trip down memory lane and a good reminder of how those type matchups work. Now, I’m ready to tell my cousin with confidence. Plus, now I’m thinking about trying to catch ’em all again… maybe.
