Okay, so, I was in the middle of this Tarkov raid, right? Things were getting pretty heated, and I realized I needed to switch up my playstyle real quick. I’m usually a run-and-gun kinda guy, but the situation called for a bit more, you know, finesse.

So I remembered this trick I saw some streamer do – switching shoulders mid-fight to get a better angle. Sounded simple enough, but my fingers were all tangled up in the heat of the moment. I needed a quick way to do this without, like, totally messing up my aim or movement.
My Usual Setup
- Movement: Your standard WASD setup.
- Fire: Left mouse button.
- Aim: Right mouse button.
- Lean: Q and E for left and right lean, respectively.
- Change Scope Zoom: One of my side mouse buttons.
- Tactical Stuff (Flashlight, Laser): Another side mouse button.
With this setup I started trying to switch my weapon to my left shoulder. My brain nearly exploaded and the default keybind for that is not something my fingers can reach. I was fumbling around like a noob, and I almost got myself killed.
I started messing around in the settings. First, I tried binding it to one of the less-used keys near WASD, like F or C. Nope, still too clunky. I kept accidentally hitting other keys in the process.
Then, a lightbulb moment! I have those extra buttons on the side of my mouse, right? I already use them for switching scope magnification and turning on my flashlight, but what if I could use one of them for this shoulder switch? It was worth a shot.
So, I went into the settings and bound the shoulder switch to my forward side mouse button. It felt a little weird at first, ngl, having something that’s usually for scoping now doing something completely different. But I practiced a bit, just running around, switching shoulders, getting used to the new feel. After playing like this for a few raids, it feels much better.

And let me tell you, it’s a game-changer! Now, when I’m in a tight spot, I can just flick my thumb, switch shoulders, and get the drop on enemies who think they have me cornered. I felt like I leveled up my Tarkov game by just changing this one keybind.
It took some trial and error, a few deaths in the process, sure. But finding that perfect keybind, that little tweak that makes all the difference, man, it’s such a satisfying feeling. Now I can switch my gun to my left shoulder with a quick click of the mouse.
