So, I was trying to show my friends just how chilly it was the other day on Snapchat. You know, make them feel the cold through the screen. I figured there had to be a way to put the actual temperature on my snap.
First thing, I just opened up Snapchat like usual. Pointed my camera outside, snapped a quick picture of the frosty morning.
Alright, picture taken. Now, how to add that temperature thing? I looked over on the right side of the screen after taking the pic. There are those icons for text, drawing, and stuff. I remembered seeing stickers before, so I tapped the sticker button – it looks kinda like a folded square note, third one down I think.
That opened up a whole bunch of stickers. Emojis, GIFs, polls… I scrolled around a bit, looking for something that looked like weather or temperature. Took me a second, but then I saw it! It was a little sticker showing a number with the degree symbol (°). Perfect.
I tapped on that temperature sticker. It popped onto my photo, but wait… it didn’t show the actual temperature at first. Sometimes it might just show ‘Loading…’ or maybe nothing useful. I realized, duh, the app needs to know where I am to get the local weather.
Turning On Location
Okay, so location permissions were needed. I had to kinda backtrack. I discarded the snap for a second (or saved it to memories, can’t recall exactly which I did). Then I went to my main Snapchat profile page by tapping my Bitmoji in the top corner.
From my profile, I tapped the gear icon up in the corner to get into Settings. Scrolled down until I found something like ‘Permissions’ or maybe it was under ‘Additional Services’ then ‘Manage’. Honestly, sometimes they move things around a bit.
Anyway, I found the ‘Location’ setting. I tapped on that and made sure it was turned on. You usually have choices like ‘While Using the App’ – that’s the one I picked. You don’t want it tracking you all the time, right? Just when you’re using the app.
With location turned on, I went back and took my snap again (or reopened the draft if I’d saved it). Tapped the sticker icon again, selected that same temperature sticker.
And voilà! This time, it immediately showed the current temperature right there on my screen. Success! I just dragged the sticker to where I wanted it on the picture, maybe pinched to resize it a bit, and then sent it off to my story. Pretty simple once you know you gotta let it see your location.
