Okay, so I was messing around with some football stuff, just digging into the history of the game, you know? And I stumbled upon this guy, Stan Humphries. Never really heard of him before, but the more I read, the more interesting it got. So I decided to make it my little project for the day.

First off, I started with the basics – who is this dude? Turns out, Stan Humphries was a quarterback in the NFL, played for the Washington Redskins and the San Diego Chargers. Born in 1965, so not exactly a household name for the younger crowd, but a big deal back in the day.
Next, I dove into his college career. This guy was the quarterback for Northeast Louisiana University (now called Louisiana-Monroe), and get this, he led them to win the 1987 NCAA Division I-AA Football Championship Game. I mean, that’s pretty impressive, right? So I jotted that down, along with some stats – in two seasons, he threw a ton of yards.
Then came his pro career. Drafted by the Redskins in 1988, didn’t really get much play. But then he moved to the Chargers, and that’s where things got interesting. From 1992 to 1997, he was their main guy. I made a little list of his achievements during this time:
- 81 starts in 88 games.
- Completed over 1,400 passes.
- Threw for over 17,000 yards.
- 89 touchdowns!
The Chargers were pretty good with him, winning more games than they lost. They even made it to the Super Bowl in 1994, which is huge! I noted that down, “Guided Chargers to their only Super Bowl appearance.”
I also found out he had some rough patches. Humphries had a dislocated shoulder and several concussions, which is pretty serious. It got to the point where he had to retire in 1998. I wrote down, “Retired in 1998 due to injuries.”

But here’s the cool part, after football, he didn’t just fade away. He became a college football commentator and even started his own celebrity golf tournament. This tournament has raised over a million dollars for a children’s hospital. How awesome is that? I added a note about his philanthropic work, “Devoted to sports, young athletes, and philanthropic work.”
So yeah, that was my day, learning about Stan Humphries. From a college champ to an NFL quarterback who led his team to the Super Bowl, and then a guy who gives back to the community. It was a fun little research project. I ended up with a nice little summary of his career and life after football.
Conclusion
It’s always cool to learn about these players from the past. They might not be as famous as the guys playing today, but they’ve got some amazing stories. I finished up by adding Stan Humphries to my list of “Forgotten Quarterbacks to Remember.” And that was it, a good day of football history geeking out.
