Today, I want to talk about something really cool I got into recently – the Snowball Derby. Yeah, sounds like a winter festival, right? But it’s actually this huge Super Late Model race down in Pensacola, Florida. I’d heard about it before, but this year I really dug in and it was awesome.
So, first off, I started by looking up past winners, just to get a feel for the history, you know? I mean, this thing’s been going on for 57 years! Found out some big names have won it. We’re talking NASCAR guys like Noah Gragson, Kyle Busch, and Chase Elliott. That got me pumped up.
Then I started looking for information about this year’s race. I found out that Kaden Honeycutt won it! He was up against Ty Majeski and Stephen Nasse, real strong racers, apparently. It was a close one, with Honeycutt taking the lead with only 18 laps to go. Can you imagine the pressure?
After that, I got curious about the track itself – Five Flags Speedway. Turns out, it’s a half-mile track, and the race is 300 laps long. That’s a lot of fast driving! I tried to find some videos of past races, and let me tell you, some of them were wild. I watched the 1980 Snowball Derby, they raced for only 1 hour and 23 minutes, Gary Balough won that year.

It was a fun deep dive into this racing event. I didn’t know much about Super Late Model racing before, but now I’m kind of hooked. I am definitely going to try to watch it live next year, or maybe even go in person! It’s awesome to see how much history and excitement there is around this one race.
