Okay, so, I’ve been digging into the Silverstone Circuit lately, you know, that famous racetrack in England. I wanted to figure out the names of all those corners, and let me tell you, it turned into a bit of a project.

First off, I started by just watching some old races. I mean, who doesn’t love a good F1 race, right? I figured I could just pick up the names as the commentators mentioned them. That worked for some, like Abbey, which is the first turn. Turns out, it’s named after some old abbey that used to be nearby.
But, I couldn’t catch them all that way. So, I hit the internet. I found out that Silverstone used to be an old Royal Air Force bomber station, which is kinda cool, I guess. That helped me to understand the whole layout a little better, seeing how the track was built on the old runways and stuff.
Then, I stumbled upon some articles talking about the British Grand Prix and the history of Silverstone. One mentioned that there are some British drivers racing this year, which got me even more excited. I started picturing them taking those turns, trying to win on their home turf.
Some Corners are Pretty Interesting
- Maggotts: This name comes from a place called Maggots Moor, which is on the other side of the Grandstand.
- Becketts: Named after Saint Thomas Becket, some old Archbishop of Canterbury.
I also found some forum posts where people were reminiscing about the “good old days” of Silverstone. They were talking about how the cars used to scream through Club Corner and Woodcote, and how Abbey used to be a left turn instead of a right. It made me realize how much the track has changed over the years.
Finally, I managed to piece it all together. I made a little list of all the corners and their names, where they came from, and some history about them. It was a lot more work than I expected, but it was actually pretty fun. It’s like, now when I watch a race at Silverstone, I feel like I know the track a little bit better, you know?

Anyway, that’s my little adventure into the world of Silverstone corner names. Hope you found it somewhat interesting! Maybe next time you watch a race there, you’ll think about all this stuff too.
