Run for Pat: How to Sign Up and Get Ready to Hit the Pavement

Okay, so, I’ve gotta tell you about this thing I did today called “Run for Pat”. Man, it was something else. Started off pretty early this morning, which, you know me, isn’t exactly my favorite thing. But hey, it was for a good cause, this Pat Tillman Foundation thing. Apparently, they do scholarships for veterans and their families, which is pretty cool.

Getting Started

First thing I had to do was, you guessed it, register. They had this website, “Run Signup,” I think it was called. Super easy to use, actually. Just put in my basic info. There was even an option to log in with my existing account, saved me some time. I think I just used my old account from last year’s race.

Then, I had to choose whether I was registering just myself or a whole group of people. Figured it was just me this year, so I selected the option that I was registering for myself.

The Day Of

So, the race was in Tempe, Arizona. Never been there before, but it was a nice place. Lots of people, good energy. There were people stretching, chatting, getting pumped up. You could tell everyone was there for the same reason, to honor this Pat Tillman guy and support the foundation. Seemed like everyone was either running or knew someone who was. It was a pretty big deal.

I lined up with everyone else, did some last-minute stretches, you know, the usual. Tried not to trip over my own feet. The race started, and off we went! It was a good run, not too intense, but enough to get the blood pumping. Lots of folks cheering on the sidelines, which was a nice boost. Even saw some volunteers handing out water, which was a lifesaver in that Arizona heat.

Wrapping Up

Finished the race, felt pretty good. Tired, obviously, but good. They had a whole setup at the finish line with snacks, music, and places to chill out. Hung around for a bit, chatted with some folks, and just soaked in the atmosphere. It was a really positive vibe, everyone feeling accomplished and proud to be a part of it.

  • Registered online. Super simple process.
  • Showed up in Tempe on race day.
  • Ran the race with a bunch of other people.
  • Enjoyed the post-race festivities.

All in all, it was a solid day. Good exercise, good cause, good people. If you’re looking for a fun run to do and want to support a worthy organization, I’d definitely recommend checking out Pat’s Run. They do it every year, apparently. I might even sign up to be a volunteer next year, seems like it would be pretty rewarding, helping out with the race and all that.
