Trying to Find a Bit of History
So, I got this idea in my head. I decided I wanted to track down something specific from McCormack’s Leeds days. Not just any old thing, but something connected to one of his moments there. I settled on trying to find an actual matchday programme from a game where he scored one of those screamers he was known for. A proper physical copy, you know?
First step was figuring out which game. I spent a fair bit of time digging through old match reports online, watching some grainy highlights. It’s easy to get lost doing that! Eventually, I picked a specific match that stood out in my memory.
Then came the actual search. This was the real graft. Where do you even begin?
- Started with the big online auction sites, obviously. Scrolled through pages and pages. Lots of Leeds stuff, but finding that exact programme from that specific date? Not so easy.
- Had a look around some fan forums too. Sometimes collectors trade there. Asked around a bit, see if anyone had it or knew someone who might.
- I even thought about driving up to Leeds, maybe checking out collectors fairs or second-hand shops near the ground, but finding the time for that was tough.
It was harder than I expected. You find things that are almost right. The wrong season, a different game, or the condition is rubbish. You have to be patient, sift through a lot of listings. Prices were all over the place too. Some people asking silly money for stuff.
I kept at it though, maybe checked sites most evenings for a few weeks. Just kept looking, refining my search terms. Almost packed it in once or twice, felt like I was chasing my tail for a folded bit of paper. But then, finally, on a smaller collector’s website I hadn’t checked much before, I spotted it. The date matched, the teams matched. Looked legit.
Took a chance. Went through the buying process, paid up, and then just had to wait. Always a bit nerve-wracking waiting for something like that to arrive in the post. You hope it’s as described.
Package turned up a few days later. Opened it up, and there it was. The actual programme from that game. Felt pretty good, actually. Holding that little piece of history, knowing the effort I’d put into finding that specific one. It wasn’t mint condition or anything, but it was the real deal.
So yeah, that was my little McCormack-Leeds related mission. Just a personal thing, trying to find that specific programme. It was a bit of a process, more time-consuming than I thought, but satisfying to finally get hold of it. Reminds you that sometimes the simple little projects are the ones that stick with you.
