Alright, so I was flipping through some shows the other night, you know, just trying to find something to put on. Landed on Catfish, and the episode was about a Kayla and a Courtney. I thought, “Okay, let’s see what this one’s all about.” I’ve watched a fair few of these in my time, so I sort of knew what I might be getting into, or at least I thought I did.

I settled in, got comfortable. Kayla’s story started to unfold. She was all in, talking to this Courtney online for a good while. Sounded pretty intense. But, surprise surprise, they’d never video chatted. Courtney always had some excuse. That’s always the first thing that makes you go “hmm,” isn’t it? I was sitting there thinking, “Here we go, classic setup.”
Then Nev and his co-host got down to business. I actually enjoy this part, watching them try to piece things together. They started doing their usual online sleuthing. You know the drill:
- Reverse image searches – nine times out of ten, the pics are swiped from someone else.
- Trying to trace phone numbers that usually lead nowhere special or to someone completely different.
I was playing along in my head, trying to figure out who Courtney really was. Is it someone Kayla knows? Just a random person bored out of their mind? The theories start flying when you watch enough of these. It’s like a little puzzle, but with real people’s feelings on the line, which is the rough part.
The lead-up to the actual meeting, that’s always a bit tense. Kayla was hopeful, a bit scared, all those emotions. You just sit there, kind of dreading the reveal for them. And then, the moment arrives. They finally meet “Courtney.” I’m not gonna give away the specifics of who it turned out to be, but it was definitely a Catfish moment. Sometimes these reveals are just jaw-dropping, other times they just make you feel a bit sad for everyone involved. This one, well, it had its own particular kind of twist.
Seeing Kayla’s reaction, that’s always tough. And then you hear why the “Courtney” person did it. Loneliness, insecurity, looking for an escape – the reasons are usually pretty tangled up. It’s a lot to take in, how someone can build a whole relationship based on a lie. Makes you think, doesn’t it?

After all the confrontation and the talking, you’re kind of left wondering what happens next for them. Do they learn from it? Does the catfisher change? It’s a real peek into the weird ways people connect, or don’t connect, online.
So yeah, that was my experience with the Kayla and Courtney episode. Just another one of those stories that reminds you to be a bit cautious when you’re meeting people through a screen. It’s a different world out there in the digital space. Easy to get lost in it.
