Okay, so, I wanted to get into D&D, but finding a group? Forget about it. It’s, like, impossible. But my buddy was also kinda curious, so I thought, why not try it with just the two of us? I mean, could it even work? Turns out, yeah, it totally can!
First off, I dug around online, trying to figure out if this was even a thing, playing D&D with just two people. I found some forums and articles that said it was doable, which was a relief. Apparently, it’s called “one-on-one” or “duet” D&D. Who knew?
Next, I had to decide who would be the Dungeon Master (DM) and who would be the player. Since I was the one who initiated this whole thing, I volunteered to be the DM. My friend, let’s call him Alex, was cool with that. He created a character, a rogue named Shadow, which sounded pretty awesome.
Getting Started
Now, for the actual game. I didn’t want to spend hours crafting a whole world from scratch, so I looked for some pre-made adventures online. I stumbled upon a bunch of free ones that were specifically designed for small groups, which was perfect. I picked one called “The Lost Mine” – seemed simple enough for a first-timer like me.
We decided to play online, cause, you know, convenience. We used a simple online dice roller, and for character sheets, we just used a shared document. Nothing fancy, but it did the trick. I also found some basic maps online that matched the adventure, so we didn’t have to draw everything ourselves.
Playing the Game
So, we started playing. I described the scenes, played the monsters, and made the story unfold. Alex, as Shadow, explored the world, made choices, and rolled dice to see if his actions succeeded. It was actually pretty fun! We got into some tricky situations, fought some goblins, and even solved a few puzzles.
To make things more interesting for Alex, I introduced a sidekick, a warrior named Bruno, that I controlled. This way, he wasn’t completely alone, and it made the combat a bit more balanced.
What I Learned
