Planning to play Richland Washington golf courses? Simple tips for hitting the links like a pro.

So, I found myself over in Richland, Washington, not too long ago. Had some time on my hands and thought, why not hit a golf course? I always pack my clubs, just in case. It’s sort of my way to clear my head, you know?

Finding a Place to Play

First thing I did was just ask around a bit, see what names popped up. Heard about a couple places. Columbia Point came up, sounded like it was right there by the river. Then someone mentioned Horn Rapids, maybe a bit further out? Wasn’t really sure.

I tried looking them up, just to get a feel for them. You try to find pictures, see what people say online, figure out how much it’s gonna cost you. It’s always a bit of a gamble showing up somewhere new.

  • Checked out Columbia Point – seemed popular, maybe a bit more polished.
  • Looked into Horn Rapids – maybe a different style, links-ish people said?
  • Heard whispers of maybe some smaller, nine-hole spots but didn’t dig too deep there.

My Day Out

Ended up picking Columbia Point. Seemed the easiest to get to from where I was staying. Called them up, got a tee time for later that morning. Pretty straightforward, which was nice.

Got there, checked in. The place had a bit of a buzz, lots of folks milling about. Clubhouse was decent enough. Grabbed a cart and headed out. The course itself? Well, it was green, that’s for sure. Right there along the Columbia River, which gives you some nice views on a few holes. It’s pretty flat mostly. Some holes were interesting, others felt a bit back-and-forth.

The conditions were alright. Greens rolled okay, maybe a little quick for my liking that day. Fairways were decent. Nothing spectacular, but perfectly playable. Lost a couple of balls, naturally. That wind coming off the river can grab your shot sometimes.

Thinking Back On It

It’s funny, playing golf in a new place. You kinda just show up, swing the club, hope for the best. It reminded me of starting this new project I was working on back home. Jumped in, didn’t totally know the landscape, just had to figure it out as I went. Sometimes you hit a great shot, sometimes you end up in the rough. That day in Richland felt a bit like that.

You know, I wasn’t there to break any course records. Honestly, I was just glad to be outside, swinging a club instead of staring at emails. My back had been acting up a bit, ever since I tried helping my neighbour move that ridiculously heavy old couch last month. Stupid, I know. But getting out, walking around, even with the cart, it felt good to stretch things out a bit. The golf itself was just okay, but the getting away from it all? That was the main thing.

So yeah, that was my little golf adventure in Richland. Played Columbia Point. It was fine. Did the job. Would I rush back? Maybe if I was in the area again. It served its purpose – got me out of the hotel and onto some grass for a few hours. Sometimes that’s all you need.
