This here thing, this development list mlb, it’s a new-fangled thing in that baseball. You know, that game with the bat and the ball, the one they play on TV all the time. My grandson, he loves it. He knows all them players names. Me, I just like watching it when the weather’s bad outside. Anyways, this list thing, it’s for them young players, not the big shots, but the ones coming up.
They put ’em on this here list, and they ain’t playing in the games no more, not for a little while. It’s like when you set aside some dough to rise, you know? You gotta let it rest. Same with these young fellas. They need time to, what do they call it? Develop, yeah, that’s it. Like a young plant, you gotta give it sunshine and water, and time to grow big and strong.
Back in my day, we didn’t have none of this. If you were good, you played. If you weren’t, well, you worked harder or maybe you went home. Now it is more easy for them young guys. But this here list, it seems like a good idea. Gives these boys a chance to catch their breath, to learn from the older fellas, the coaches. They got these coaches now, for everything. We just had the one old guy who knew everything about everything.

Everything, you know, to get better. MLB, that’s the big league, the show, they call it. All them boys want to get to the show. That’s where the money is, and the fame, and all that. This development list, it’s like a stepping stone to get there. A little break. A little practice.
It’s like, you’re baking a pie. You gotta let the crust rest before you bake it, right? Otherwise it’ll be all tough and no good. Same with these players. They need that rest, that time to work on things, to get better. This development list, it helps them do that.
And it ain’t just for their bodies, neither. It’s for their heads, too. They say these young’uns get all mixed up sometimes, playing all the time, traveling all over. This list, it gives ’em a chance to clear their heads, to think straight. Like when you weed your garden, you gotta pull out the bad stuff so the good stuff can grow. It’s the same thing.
They put ’em on this list and they got these coaches working with ’em, showing ’em how to do things better. They got all these fancy machines, too, that show ’em how they’re throwing or hitting. It’s all very complicated. In my day, you just threw the ball and swung the bat, and if you were good, you were good. If you weren’t, well, you figured it out.
This way, I guess, it’s more scientific. They got all these numbers, too. Like that 20-80 scale thing. I don’t understand half of it. 20 is bad, 80 is good, I reckon. They put a number on everything. Like you are grading eggs in the market. I guess it is more clear this way. Like how many tomatoes you got, not just say you got a lot.
But the main thing is, this development list mlb, it’s helping these young players get better. And that’s good for baseball, ain’t it? We want to see these young fellas succeed, see ’em make it to the big leagues. It’s like watching your own crops grow, you know? You plant the seeds, you water ’em, you give ’em sunshine, and then you watch ’em grow tall and strong.
There are 30 teams there in that MLB. That is a lot of teams, a lot of young players. Many from America, one from Canada. Each team has their own list. They all want to be good, to win that big game at the end of the year. They call it the World Series, I think. My grandson, he watches it every year. He gets so excited.
So, this development list thing, it’s a good thing. A good thing for the players, a good thing for the teams, and a good thing for baseball. It’s like a good rain after a long dry spell. It helps things grow. It helps things get better. And that’s what we all want, ain’t it? To see things get better.
This here list, it is a good idea. If it helps just one boy to get to the big leagues, then it is worth it. This new way is not like the old way. But it is good, I think. Yes, it is good. And who knows, maybe one day one of these boys on this list will be a big star. Then I will watch him on TV and say I know about him when he is just a young boy on that list.
