Alright, so I had this itch today. Decided to dig way back into the vault, you know? Pulled out the No Land Beyond. Yeah, that old thing from Destiny. Felt like stepping back in time just equipping it.

First thing you remember is those iron sights. No fancy scopes here, just straight-up old-school aiming. And the bolt action… oh boy. Fired it up, just messing around on patrol first. Went to the Cosmodrome, figured it was fitting. Lots of Fallen to practice on, right?
Man, those first few minutes were rough. Just getting the feel back was a struggle. I was missing shots left and right. A Dreg would be standing perfectly still, and somehow I’d whiff it. Then you’ve got that slow, deliberate bolt cycle. Felt like an eternity between shots, especially when a couple of Vandals decided to rush me. Pure panic trying to cycle the bolt while backpedaling.
Getting the Hang of It (Sort Of)
After a while though, something started to click. You kind of have to force yourself to slow down. Can’t play it like other snipers, can’t treat it like a primary really. It demands patience. You line up the shot, breathe, squeeze the trigger… crack. Then you work the bolt. There’s a rhythm to it.
- Lining up the iron sights takes focus.
- Compensating for the lack of zoom is tricky.
- The timing of the bolt-action becomes muscle memory after a bit.
Started landing more shots. Got a few headshots on some unsuspecting Shanks and Vandals. Gotta admit, when you land a clean headshot with this thing, it feels incredibly satisfying. That heavy thwack sound is just different. It feels earned, you know?
Tried taking it into a low-level Strike. That was… interesting. Definitely wasn’t topping the damage charts, let me tell you. My teammates were probably wondering what on earth I was doing. Kept getting caught reloading at the worst times. It’s just not practical when things get hectic.

Did I try it in Crucible? Yeah, for like two matches. Got absolutely demolished, mostly. It’s just too slow for the pace of PvP these days. Landed one lucky headshot that felt amazing, but mostly I was just feeding the other team kills. Respect to anyone who can actually dominate with this thing in PvP now.
So, after a solid hour or so of practice, what’s the verdict? It’s clunky. It’s slow. It’s often frustrating. But there’s something undeniably unique about it. Using it forces you to play differently, more deliberately. It’s a challenge weapon, through and through. Probably gonna stick it back in the vault for now, but hey, it was fun to take the old girl out for a spin. Reminded me of simpler times, I guess. Worth the practice session just for that feeling.
