So, I got into this whole Hovland score thing a while back. It all started when I was watching some golf tournament. I didn’t really understand all the scoring stuff, especially since this one had some players starting with a few strokes already, like a handicap or something. I thought, “What’s up with that?”
I dug around a bit and found out this was part of a system to make things more exciting at the end, I guess. So, players ranked six through ten, they start at four-under, then the next group at three-under, and so on. The last few guys, 26 through 30, they start at even-par. Pretty straightforward, huh?
Then I started looking into this guy, Viktor Hovland. Turns out, last season was huge for him. He won a few tournaments, and get this – he bagged some massive prize, a big bonus at the end of the year. It got me thinking, how is this Hovland score actually put together?
I did some reading, I found out that this Carl Hovland character was the mastermind behind it. He created a whole system for research about persuasion. Yeah, you heard that right – persuasion. It seems like it has four stages: attention, comprehension, reactance and something else. I jotted them down because I wanted to remember.

Then I got sidetracked, honestly. I started reading about some other guy, Edoardo Molinari, who apparently helped Hovland improve his game. It’s wild how all these things connect, right?
Anyway, after all that digging around, I finally put together a way to kind of evaluate how Hovland did, especially right after a big win. It’s a scoring system out of 110 points, it is not perfect. It’s just something I cooked up for fun. Because I did some reading, Hovland was an important figure, especially during World War II!

So, yeah, that’s how I ended up getting into this Hovland score stuff. It’s been a fun little project, figuring out all the pieces and how they fit together. I mean, who knew golf could lead to persuasion theory and all that? But at the end, I know that Hovland did really great in the moments after his win!
