Getting Started with Those Codes
Alright, so you’ve got one of those Pokémon codes. Maybe from an event, or sometimes they sneak ’em into those trading card game packs. Cool stuff, right? But then comes the big question: how do you actually get your digital goodies? I went through this just the other day, so let me walk you through what I did. It’s not rocket science, but sometimes the menus can feel like a maze, you know?

Firing Up the Game and Finding the Spot
First things first, I had to get my game going. I was playing on my Switch, one of the newer Pokémon titles. You know how it is, gotta make sure you’re connected to the internet too, because these things usually need to phone home. So, game on, internet connected. Pretty basic stuff to kick things off.
Then the hunt began. I remember poking around the main menu for a bit when I first tried this ages ago. You’d think it’d be front and center, but nope. I had to open up the main game menu, the one you use to save or check your Pokémon. For my game, I think it was the X button to bring that up. Every game’s a little different, but there’s always a main menu somewhere.
Navigating to Mystery Gift
Once I was in that main menu, I scrolled around. There’s usually an option called something like ‘Poké Portal’ or a similar name depending on the specific game. I clicked on that. Inside that, finally, I spotted it: ‘Mystery Gift’. That’s the golden ticket, folks. That’s what you’re almost always looking for.
Tapped on ‘Mystery Gift’, and it gave me a few more choices. Stuff like ‘Get via Internet’ for general events, and then the one I needed: ‘Get with Code/Password’. That was my target. Clicked that one right away.
Punching in the Code (and a little tip)
So, I selected ‘Get with Code/Password’. The game then brings up a screen for you to type in your precious code. Now, here’s a little thing I always do, and trust me on this one: I lay the code out right in front of me and type it super carefully. It’s so easy to mix up an ‘O’ with a zero ‘0’, or an ‘I’ with a one ‘1’. I’ve made that mistake before, wasted a good few minutes wondering why it wasn’t working, only to find out I’d fumbled a character. Felt like a right fool. Not this time, though!

I typed it all in, character by character. Double-checked it. Triple-checked it even. Can’t be too careful, right? Especially when you’re excited to see what you get.
The Reward!
After I hit ‘OK’ or ‘Enter’, the game did its little connecting animation. You see that spinning wheel, and you hold your breath for a second. Then, success! It told me what I was getting, and the item or Pokémon was added to my game. It’s a pretty neat feeling, like opening a little digital present. All that menu digging and careful typing paid off.
So, yeah, that’s pretty much the drill. It might vary slightly from game to game, but generally, you’re looking for that ‘Mystery Gift’ option somewhere in your main menu or a connected feature like the Poké Portal. Just take your time with the code entry, and you’ll be swimming in those special goodies in no time. It’s usually simpler than it looks once you’ve done it once or twice. Happy redeeming!
