Okay, so let’s talk about my little adventure with horse racing in Fargo. It all started when I heard that the North Dakota Horse Park was celebrating 20 years of live racing. 20 years! Can you believe it? I thought, “Why not check it out?”
Getting Started
First things first, I had to figure out how to actually watch these races. I mean, I wasn’t about to drive all the way to Fargo just for that. I’m not that hardcore, at least not yet. So, I did what any normal person would do and hit up Google.
Turns out, there are tons of ways to watch horse racing online. Who knew? I stumbled upon this thing called Racing America 24/7. It’s a free streaming channel, and you don’t even need to sign up. It was available on a bunch of different platforms, like Sky, Amazon Fire TV, and Apple TV. Easy peasy.
Diving In
Then I found another option, Racing TV. It has its own website and apps. They offered a free trial, or you could subscribe. I went for the free trial ’cause, well, I’m cheap. I figured I’d see if I liked it first before committing my hard-earned cash. They have apps for just about any device you can think of, so I downloaded it on my phone.
But that wasn’t all. I also discovered that some races are shown on regular TV. In some places, you can catch them on free-to-air channels like 68 or 78. I even saw that Foxtel Channel 529 had some races. So, I checked my local listings and found a few races that way.
Exploring More
- I found out about TVG and TVG2. They have live streams from over 150 tracks around the US. That’s a lot of horse racing! I watched a few races on their website. They seemed to be the experts, as they claimed to be “the most popular horse racing media destination in the world.”
- There’s also this platform called Peacock that showed some races along with other sports and shows. I didn’t dive too deep into that one, but it looked interesting.
My Experience
Honestly, it was a bit overwhelming at first. So many options! But once I got the hang of it, it was pretty cool. I watched a few races from different tracks, like Del Mar and Gulfstream. It was exciting to see the horses run, even if I didn’t know anything about betting. Maybe I’ll learn that part later.
For now, I’m just enjoying the thrill of the races from the comfort of my couch. It’s a fun way to spend an afternoon, and who knows, maybe I’ll become a real horse racing fan someday. But for now, I’m just a newbie dipping my toes in the water. We’ll see where this little hobby takes me!
