Experience Chase Field football excitement: Understand the unique viewing angles and atmosphere for fans attending games there.

So, I heard they were playing football at Chase Field. Yeah, the baseball park. Sounded kinda weird, right? But I figured, why not check it out? Had to see how they’d even set that up.

Got online and looked for tickets. Found some decent ones, not too pricey, which was a plus. Called up a friend, asked if he wanted to go see this oddity. He was game. So, we locked it in. Didn’t really do much else to prep, just planned to head down there on game day.

Drove downtown, found parking eventually – always a bit of a hassle around there. Walked towards the stadium, and you could tell it was game day, but it felt a bit different than heading to a dedicated football stadium. Lots of baseball stuff still visible, mixed with the football team colors.

Went inside, found our section. Walking to the seats, you really get the feel of it being a baseball stadium first. The shape is just different. Then you see the field. They basically shoehorned a football gridiron onto the diamond. It looked… interesting. The end zones seemed kinda tight against the walls in some spots, especially near where the dugouts usually are.

Finding the seats was easy enough. Sat down and just looked around. The sight lines weren’t bad, actually, maybe because baseball parks are designed with different angles. But it definitely wasn’t the typical view you get at a football game. Felt a bit further away in some spots, maybe closer in others depending on where the play was.

The game itself kicked off. It was loud, people were into it. The atmosphere was good! Watching the players run around on that makeshift field was the main event for me, honestly. A few things I noticed:

  • The sidelines felt really close to the stands in certain areas.
  • Seeing tackles happen near the infield dirt was just plain weird.
  • The scoreboard is obviously set up for baseball stats, so seeing football scores felt a little out of place, but it worked.

It was a full game, touchdowns, tackles, the whole deal. But the whole time, I just kept thinking, “We’re watching football in a baseball stadium.” It never quite felt completely normal, which was part of the fun, I guess. Kinda like a novelty experience.

Game ended, we filed out with the crowd. Overall, it was a cool experience. Glad I went. It’s not something you see every day. Would I prefer watching football there over a proper football stadium? Probably not. But seeing how they made it work, feeling the slightly different vibe, it was definitely worth doing once. Just a unique way to spend an afternoon watching some football.
