I set out to dig into the Miami defense’s stats because I kept hearing mixed things about them. Some folks say they’re solid, others say they’re leaky. I wanted to see for myself.

First, I grabbed all the game results for Miami this season. It took some time because I wanted to look at each game individually.
- Looked at rushing yards allowed per game. Found out they’re giving up 130.7 yards on average. That puts them in the middle of the pack, around 16th in the league.
- Noticed something interesting. Most teams ahead of them in this stat have played more games. So, maybe Miami’s numbers aren’t as bad as they seem at first glance.
Then, I dug into their overall performance. Seems like consistency has been a problem for them. They started the season looking pretty good, but then things got shaky when they started playing conference games.
- Read about their pass rush. Last year, they had 35 sacks and were ranked 22nd in the nation. This year, they’re supposed to have more speed and size upfront, but the numbers don’t show much improvement yet.
- Checked out their overall record. They’re sitting at 3-2 right now, 3rd in their division and 6th in the conference.
- Found out that the team had averaged 18.0 yards per game this season.
My conclusion
After spending all this time looking at the numbers and reading what others have said, I’m still not sure what to make of Miami’s defense. They’ve got potential, but they haven’t quite put it all together yet. I guess we’ll have to wait and see how they do for the rest of the season.
