Alright, so I got thinking about Drew Brees earlier today. You know, the Saints quarterback, legend. And I started trying to remember all the nicknames folks had for him over the years. It wasn’t like I did some deep dive research or anything, just sat back and tried to pull them from memory, like digging through old boxes in my head.

First thing that popped up, almost instantly, was Breesus. Man, that one was everywhere, especially down in New Orleans. You couldn’t escape it after a big win. It just stuck, felt right for how much he meant to that city, especially after Katrina.
Then I thought, okay, what else? There had to be more. I kinda stared at the ceiling for a bit. Sometimes people just kept it simple, right? Like just calling him Brees. Not really a nickname, but it’s how everyone referred to him, short and sweet.
I also seem to remember hearing Cool Brees tossed around a few times. Like, play on words, “cool breeze.” Maybe it wasn’t as widespread as Breesus, but I’m pretty sure I heard it used by announcers or fans here and there. He had that calm demeanor sometimes, so it sort of fit.
Nicknames I Dug Up
So, after rummaging through my brain, here’s what I landed on:
- Breesus: This was the big one, the most iconic.
- Cool Brees: A bit more subtle, that play on words.
- Brees: Simple, direct, used all the time.
Yeah, that’s pretty much what I came up with just thinking back on his playing days. Mostly dominated by ‘Breesus’, really. Guy was definitely one of a kind.
