Okay, so today I decided to dive into the whole “Charles Leclerc sad” meme that’s been floating around. I wanted to see if I could, I don’t know, quantify it? Make something fun out of it? Here’s how it went.

The Idea
First, I needed a plan. My thought was to grab a bunch of pictures of Charles looking, well, less than thrilled. Then, maybe I could use some sort of image recognition thing to see how sad he actually looked in each one. I felt like it will be an simple and intersting project.
Gathering the Evidence
This part was pretty straightforward. I spent a good hour just scrolling through Google Images, Twitter, and some F1 fan forums. I saved anything where he looked disappointed, frustrated, or just plain bummed out. Ended up with, like, 50 pictures. It’s a tough life being a Ferrari driver, I guess.
The “Analysis”
Okay, this is where it got a little tricky. I’m no expert in AI or anything, so I tried to find some online tools that could do facial emotion recognition. I found a couple of free websites where you could upload a picture, and it would spit out a score for different emotions – happy, sad, angry, etc.
So, I started uploading my pictures, one by one. It was kind of tedious, but I made a simple spreadsheet to keep track of the “sadness score” for each image. Some websites were better than others; some just gave me weird results.
Results (Sort Of)
- It’s hard to say definitively, the results weren’t exactly scientific.
- The websites I used weren’t super consistent.
- But, it was pretty clear that, yeah, Charles has a lot of photos where he looks genuinely sad.
- I did get a good laugh out of the whole process, though.
Honestly, this whole thing was more about having a bit of fun than doing any serious analysis. I learned that there are tools out there that claim to measure emotions, but you probably shouldn’t take them too seriously. And I confirmed what we all already knew: Charles Leclerc has had some rough moments, especially in recent seasons. Poor guy. I still think he’s great, though.
