Okay, so, I had this issue with my motorbike. The chain, you know, it kept getting loose. It was driving me nuts! I mean, I’d tighten it up, and a few rides later, it’d be all slack again. At first, I just figured it was normal, something that needed regular checking, like tire pressure or whatever. So, I got into the habit of checking the chain tension pretty frequently.

But it just kept happening. And it’s not like I’m a newbie at this. I’ve been riding for years. But this was really bugging me. Started to think it might be something to do with wear and tear. It made sense, I guess. I mean, that chain has a ton of tiny pins, and even if each one wears down just a little bit, it adds up.
So I started doing two things: keeping the chain lubed up properly and making sure it was clean. I was hoping that would slow down the wear. You know, like when you’re trying to make an old pair of shoes last just a little bit longer.
How I did it:
-
Cleaning: First, I got myself a decent chain cleaner. There are a bunch of options, but you can also use kerosene. I’d spray that stuff on, let it sit for a bit, and then scrub the chain with a brush. After that, I’d rinse it off with water. The whole process was kind of messy, but it got the job done.
-
Lubing: After the chain was all clean and dry, I’d apply some chain lube. Again, there are tons of different types. I just made sure to get one that was suitable for my bike and the conditions I usually ride in. I’d rotate the wheel and apply the lube to the inside of the chain, making sure to get every link.
-
Adjusting: Then came the tension. Most bikes have some markings on the swingarm to help you align the rear wheel. I’d loosen the axle nut, adjust the tension using the adjusters, and then tighten everything back up. This part can be a bit tricky because you need to make sure the wheel is aligned properly. A misaligned wheel can cause all sorts of problems.
Honestly, it’s still something I keep an eye on. But doing this regularly has made a noticeable difference. The chain doesn’t get loose as quickly anymore. I guess the moral of the story is, take care of your chain, and it’ll take care of you, or at least, it won’t annoy you as much. Hope this helps someone who might be going through the same thing. Ride safe, everyone!
