Cantiague Golf Course Hicksville NY: What to expect and how to book your tee time easily.

So, I had this itch, you know? The kind of itch only a round of golf can scratch. It’d been a while, and the clubs were gathering a bit of dust. I started looking around for a decent public course, nothing too fancy, just a place to swing and hopefully find the fairway a few times. Cantiague Golf Course in Hicksville kept popping up in my searches, and I thought, “Alright, let’s give this a shot.” I hadn’t been there in ages, probably years, so it felt like checking out a new spot almost.

Getting Out There

I called up a buddy, see if he was game. He was, thankfully. Nothing worse than psyching yourself up for golf and then having to play solo when you wanted some company. We managed to snag a tee time for mid-morning, which I always prefer. Not too early, not too late. Perfect.

The drive over to Hicksville wasn’t too bad. I actually kind of enjoy that little bit of anticipation on the way to a course. We were just chatting, usual stuff, already making excuses for the bad shots we hadn’t even hit yet. Classic. Finding the place was easy enough; it’s pretty well known in the area, I guess.

First Impressions and Teeing Off

Pulling in, the vibe felt pretty standard for a county course. Lots of folks milling about, the usual clatter of clubs. We headed into the pro shop to check in. The folks behind the counter were alright, got us sorted out pretty quickly. No fuss, which is always a good start. We didn’t hang around much, just wanted to get to the first tee.

We hit a few balls on the range first – well, I say “range,” it’s more of a warm-up area, but it does the trick. Gets the rust off, or at least you hope it does. Then it was our turn. Standing on that first tee, it always feels like a fresh start, doesn’t it? No matter how many times you’ve played.

The Round Itself

So, how was the course? Well, Cantiague is a pretty straightforward track. It’s not going to beat you up too badly if you’re hitting it reasonably well, which is nice for a casual round. The conditions were, you know, decent. For a public course that gets a lot of play, I thought the greens were in okay shape. Fairways were what you’d expect. Some good holes, some forgettable ones, but that’s golf, right?

I remember one par 3, can’t recall the number, but it had a bit of water that made you think. I actually managed to stick one close there! Of course, I probably three-putted, but the tee shot felt good. My buddy, on the other hand, was having one of those days where the ball just didn’t want to go where he aimed. We’ve all been there.

The pace of play was… well, it was a weekend morning, so it wasn’t lightning fast. But it wasn’t a total crawl either. We had a good group in front of us, keeping things moving mostly. You always get a bit of waiting on some tees, but nothing that ruined the day.

  • Staff seemed friendly enough.
  • Course conditions were acceptable for the price and traffic.
  • It’s a good place for an everyday kind of round.

Wrapping Up the Day

We finished up our 18, shook hands, and tallied the scores (mine was bad, his was worse, so I “won,” I guess). We didn’t stick around for food or anything, just packed up and headed out. Felt good to have gotten out, swung the clubs, and spent some time outdoors.

Overall, Cantiague Golf Course delivered what I expected. It’s not a championship course, and it doesn’t pretend to be. It’s a solid, local public course where you can go play a round without too much hassle or breaking the bank. Would I go back? Yeah, probably. If I’m in the area and looking for a reliable place to play, it’s definitely an option. It’s one of those places that’s just… there. And sometimes, that’s exactly what you need. Just a place to play some golf. And that day, it did the job just fine.
