Getting Out There

The drive over to Hicksville wasn’t too bad. I actually kind of enjoy that little bit of anticipation on the way to a course. So, how was the course? Well, Cantiague is a pretty straightforward track. It’s not going to beat you up too badly if you’re hitting it reasonably well, which is nice for a casual round. The conditions were, you know, decent. For a public course that gets a lot of play, I thought the greens were in okay shape. Fairways were what you’d expect. Some good holes, some forgettable ones, but that’s golf, right?
I remember one par 3, can’t recall the number, but it had a bit of water that made you think. I actually managed to stick one close there! Of course, I probably three-putted, but the tee shot felt good. My buddy, on the other hand, was having one of those days where the ball just didn’t want to go where he aimed. We’ve all been there.
The pace of play was… well, it was a weekend morning, so it wasn’t lightning fast. But it wasn’t a total crawl either. We had a good group in front of us, keeping things moving mostly. You always get a bit of waiting on some tees, but nothing that ruined the day.

Overall, Cantiague Golf Course delivered what I expected. It’s not a championship course, and it doesn’t pretend to be. It’s a solid, local public course where you can go play a round without too much hassle or breaking the bank. Would I go back? Yeah, probably. If I’m in the area and looking for a reliable place to play, it’s definitely an option. It’s one of those places that’s just… there. And sometimes, that’s exactly what you need. Just a place to play some golf. And that day, it did the job just fine.
