Alright, so lemme tell you about this “time in abu” thing I’ve been messing around with. It all started when I was trying to figure out how to better manage my freetime while still getting work done.

First things first, I downloaded this little time tracking app. There are tons of ’em out there, but I just grabbed the first one that looked half-decent. The idea was simple: track how I was spending my time each day.

For the first week, I just let it run in the background. Didn’t try to change anything, just wanted to see where my hours were actually going. And man, was that an eye-opener!

Turns out, I was spending way too much time on social media and getting distracted by random stuff on the internet. Like, hours gone down the drain. No wonder I always felt like I didn’t have enough time for anything.

So, after that initial shock, I started to make some tweaks. I set up specific time blocks for work, for checking emails, and even for goofing off. The key was to schedule everything, even the fun stuff.

Here’s what my schedule looked like:

  • 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM: Deep work (no distractions!)
  • 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM: Lunch & quick check of emails/messages
  • 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM: Meetings, calls, less intense tasks
  • 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM: Wrap up, plan for the next day
  • 5:00 PM onwards: Free time!

It wasn’t perfect, and I definitely didn’t stick to it 100% of the time. But just having that structure made a huge difference. I felt more in control of my day, and I actually started getting more done.

Another thing I did was block off certain websites and apps during my deep work time. There are browser extensions that can do this, or you can just be disciplined and close everything down manually. Whatever works for you.

The hardest part was sticking to it in the beginning. There were definitely days when I just wanted to throw the whole thing out the window and go back to my old, chaotic ways. But I kept reminding myself of how much time I was wasting before, and that helped me stay on track.

Now, after a few weeks of this “time in abu” experiment, I’m seeing some real results. I’m more productive at work, I have more time for my hobbies, and I generally feel less stressed. It’s not a magic bullet, but it’s definitely a step in the right direction.

So, if you’re feeling overwhelmed and like you never have enough time, I highly recommend giving this a try. Track your time, identify your time-wasters, and create a schedule that works for you. It might take some trial and error, but it’s worth it in the end.
