Okay, let me tell you about this guy, Andre Dawkins. I was looking for some basketball coaching tips online, and his name popped up. Turns out, this guy has quite a journey.
So, first thing I did was do a little digging. Found out he’s now the head coach at Charlottesville High School. Pretty cool, right? Before that, he played for Duke University. Man, that’s a big name in college basketball! I remember watching some of their games back in the day.
I went a bit further into his past, and guess what? Before Duke, he played at Atlantic Shores and was an all-state pick three times! That’s some serious talent right there. The guy really knows his way around the court.

Then, I followed his career after college. It seems he played in the G-League and even overseas for a while. He’s been around, that’s for sure. Eventually, he decided to go into coaching.
He was killing it as a head coach at Mount St. Mary High School in Oklahoma City. Two years, and his team had a 38-13 record. That’s impressive for someone just starting out in coaching!
From Player to Coach
Seems like Andre had to take a break from basketball after his playing days. Then he jumped into coaching, and now he’s making waves at Charlottesville High School. I guess he found his true calling, and it’s pretty inspiring to see someone transition from playing to coaching so successfully.
You know, it makes me think about how important it is to have passion for what you do. This guy, Andre Dawkins, he’s living proof that if you love something enough, you can find a way to make it your life’s work, even if it means switching gears along the way. I bet he’s got some great stories to tell his team, and I’m sure he’s teaching them a lot more than just basketball.
I started this search looking for some simple coaching tips, but ended up learning about this guy’s whole life story. It’s kind of amazing how one thing leads to another on the internet, isn’t it? Reminds me of those times when you start watching one video and three hours later you’re down some weird rabbit hole. Anyway, I’m glad I stumbled upon Andre Dawkins. His story is pretty awesome, and it got me thinking about my own path. Maybe I should try coaching sometime. Who knows, right? Life’s full of surprises.
He lives in Charlottesville, Virginia, with his wife, Armani, their son Maverick, and their dog Ares. His birthday seems to be September 19.
