Alright, so I’ve been messing around with this “hag eye” thing in Baldur’s Gate 3, trying to get that extra ability boost. It’s been a bit of a rollercoaster, let me tell you.
First, I had to track down Auntie Ethel. Found her in the swamp, all creepy and whatnot. I went through her whole questline, you know, dealing with the masked folks and all that drama. The key is to get her to low health in the fight, but don’t kill her! This is important, or else you won’t get the option for the eye.
The Deal with the Devil (or Hag)
When she’s about to croak, she’ll beg for her life. That’s when you can negotiate. I picked the dialogue option that basically said, “Give me power!” She offered up her eye in exchange for letting her go.

Getting the Eye…and the Catch
So, she pops out her eye (gross, I know), and you get this item called “Auntie Ethel’s Hair.” Now, don’t eat it right away! There’s a trick to this. I think the key is put it to your main character, I try it with another and doesn’t work. I mean, I chose my main character, my awesome drow ranger.
- Gave the hair to my Main character.
- Used the hair.
The Result
You get a +1 to an ability score of your choice! Sweet, right? But, and this is a big BUT, you also get this permanent visual effect. Your character’s eye changes, and it looks kinda messed up. Honestly, it bothered me at first, but I’ve gotten used to it. It’s like a permanent, weird cosmetic change, plus, you get the “hag eye condition”. I put a cool helmet and now, I don’t have to see the eye, and problem solved.
- Got a +1 to ability score.
- My character’s eye look now, very weird.
So, that’s my whole experience with the hag eye. It’s a trade-off, a power boost for a permanent cosmetic change and a Hag eye condition. Weigh the pros and cons before you decide! I hope my experience help you to take a better desicion with this quest.
