Okay, so I’ve been seeing “barre france” pop up all over my social media feeds, and I finally decided to give it a shot. Honestly, I was a little intimidated at first. I mean, ballet-inspired workouts? I’m about as graceful as a baby elephant.

But, I found this beginner-friendly online class, and figured, why not? I cleared some space in my living room, put on some comfy workout clothes, and hit play.
Getting Started
- First, I grabbed a chair to use as my “barre.” It wasn’t the prettiest setup, but it worked!
- Then I followed basic instructions to begin.
The instructor was super encouraging, which helped a lot. She walked us through these basic ballet positions – first position, second position, pliés… my legs were already starting to feel it!
We did a lot of small, pulsing movements. It doesn’t look like much, but trust me, you feel the burn. I was definitely sweating more than I expected. There were moments where I thought my thighs were going to give out, but I pushed through.
We also incorporated some light weights (I just used some water bottles) for arm exercises. Again, nothing crazy, but it added an extra level of challenge.
The Aftermath
After the class, about 30 minutes, I felt amazing!

My muscles were definitely tired, but in a good way. I felt like I’d really worked out, but I wasn’t completely wiped out. It was a great low-impact workout, and I can see why people are obsessed with it.I can not wait to start again.
