Okay, so I’ve been on this huge baseball kick lately, diving deep into classic teams. And you know what? The 1986 Mets kept popping up. So, I decided I had to know everything about that legendary roster. Here’s how I went about it, and what I dug up.

Getting Started: Finding a Reliable Source
First things first, I needed a good source. I didn’t want some random fan page; I wanted the real deal. I started by searching online for “1986 NY Mets roster”.
Digging into the Roster
Once I landed on a couple solid-looking sites, I started copying down all the player names. Man, there were a LOT. I went position by position:
- Pitchers: I started scribbling down names like Gooden, Darling, Ojeda… the list went on and on.
- Catchers: Carter, of course! He was a beast. I also noted down a few backups.
- Infielders: Hernandez, Backman, Knight… So many familiar faces.
- Outfielders: Strawberry! Dykstra! Mookie! This team was STACKED.
Organizing My Notes
After I had this huge list, I started organizing it. I made a simple table, basically just rows and columns, to keep track of everyone. I put the player’s name in one column, and their position in another. That way I can sort them whatever, Pitcher or Outfielders.
I could see the whole team laid out. It made it way easier to get a feel for how the team was structured.
Realizing the Depth
Honestly, going through this process, name by name, really drove home how deep that ’86 Mets team was. It wasn’t just a few superstars; they had talent everywhere. No wonder they won the World Series!
I realized that I built the entire roster data by my hand. This is the most exciting part.
