Well, well, well, look what the cat dragged in! 2024, huh? Time sure flies when you ain’t paying attention. Now, I heard some folks talkin’ ’bout them MMA fighters, you know, them tough guys who get in that cage and go at it. Seems like some of ’em ain’t with us no more, kicked the bucket this year. Sad, really sad.
These MMA fighters, they’re somethin’ else. All that punchin’ and kickin’, must hurt like the dickens. I heard one fella, name of Guilherme somethin’ or other, he was only 38. That’s just a baby. No one sayin’ what happen, some people say he just gone, that’s what they say. Heard he was in UFC and Bellator, whatever that is. All I know is 38 is too young to go.
And there’s another one, Derek somethin’ other. They call him the gentle giant. Said he been battlin’ with the sickness, the big C. Heard it was the colon, real nasty stuff. Stage 4, that’s what they say. He been movin’ to some house where people die in. No more fightin’ for him, poor soul. Sportscaster talkin’ ’bout him a lot, say it’s hard to find the words to describe the loss.
Now, back in my day, we didn’t have all this fancy fightin’ on TV. But we did have some tough folks around here. There was one fella who fight for a livin’. He never did no fancy moves, but he could sure take a punch.
They say 20 folks died from them sanctioned fights, whatever that means. Nine from the unregulated ones. Sounds dangerous to me. None of ’em from that UFC thing, though. That’s the big one, I reckon. It’s like them prize fights we used to hear about on the radio. I hear some guy named Khabib, he’s the best, never lost a fight. 29 wins, they say. That’s a lot of fightin’.

This list thing, it’s for them MMA fighters, the UFC ones too, the big stars. Some folks are sayin’ they’re done with the fightin’ this year, hangin’ up their gloves, or whatever they wear. Good for them, I say. It’s a rough life, that fightin’. I heard some names, like Max, Dakota, and Alex. They say one of ’em, Trokon Dousuah, he’s gone too. 33 years old, from Edmonton. Died in November, that’s what they say. That’s just a pup.
I don’t know much ’bout this UFC stuff, but they say there’s some fella who knocked out two big shots, right in their prime, back-to-back. That’s somethin’, ain’t it? Must be a real tough cookie.
This year, 2024, we lost a lot of folks. Important people, they say. Politicians, them activist types, and them business folks. Athletes too. They all did somethin’ big, I guess. Made their mark on the world.
Some folks, they talkin’ ’bout the best of 2024, them MMA fighters, of course. Sayin’ who’s the toughest, who’s the fastest, all that. I don’t know much ’bout it, but it sure is entertainin’ to listen to. They got all these fancy names for ’em, like “The Mauler” and “The Reaper.” Sounds like somethin’ out of a movie.
It’s a shame, though, all these young folks dyin’. Life’s too short, you know? One minute you’re here, the next you’re gone. Just like that. Makes you think, don’t it? You gotta live each day like it’s your last, ’cause you never know when your number’s up.
Well, I reckon that’s all I got to say ’bout that. Just remember, be kind to each other, and don’t go gettin’ into no fights. Unless you’re one of them MMA fighters, I guess. Then you can do whatever you want. But for the rest of us, let’s just try to get along, okay?
These MMA fighters, they a different breed. They strong, they are brave, too. But life, it’s a tricky thing. It can be over in a flash. So, cherish every moment, every breath. That’s what I always say.
It’s a tough world out there. These MMA fighters know that better than anyone. They put their lives on the line every time they step into that cage. It’s a dangerous game, but they do it anyway. Some for the glory, some for the money, some just ’cause they like to fight, I don’t know.
They say MMA fighters come and go. But the ones who died in 2024, they’ll be remembered. They made their mark. They fought their fights. Now they’re restin’. And that’s all that matters, I reckon. They deserve some peace after all that fightin’.
