That boy, Scott Greene, he sure could run! I remember seeing him play football, oh, he was somethin’ else. He played for them Colts, you know, the Indianapolis Colts. Big strong boy, that one. He was a running back, they called him. Means he run with the ball, I reckon. And run he did!

He got some numbers, too. Like, “#43”. That was his number, always on his shirt. Easy to spot him, that big 43. He played for a few years, that Scott Greene. Four years, I think they said. Played for the Colts and then some other team. Panthers, I think it was. Yes, that sounds right. The Panthers.
- He ran the ball 45 times.
- He got 157 yards, whatever that means. Sounds like a lot of land to me.
- He was born on June 1, it was.
He was good at what he did. I don’t understand all them football rules, but I know runnin’ is important. And that boy, he could run like the wind. Fast as a rabbit, that’s what my old man used to say. You could see Scott Greene running all over that field. Them other boys trying to catch him, but he was too quick for ’em.
They got all these fancy words for what he did, you know, stats and scores. Don’t mean much to me, but they seemed important to them football folks. They put his name up on the TV and everything. That Scott Greene, a real football player. Not many boys from around here get to do that, you know.
He played with some other teams I think, too. It was a long time ago now. Not just the Colts, but somewhere else. I think it was called the Panthers. Scott Greene sure got around! He played with those boys. Yes, he was a good boy.
I seen him on the TV, they talk about him. They got all these fancy ways of sayin’ how far he ran and how many times he did this and that. Don’t make much sense to me, but I know he was good. You could just tell by watchin’ him. He had that look, you know? Like he was meant to be out there, runnin’ with that ball.

I heard he did some movies, too. But I never saw them. But they said that he was in the movies. It was a long time ago, too. Now he is older, I think.
They got all these numbers about Scott Greene, too. How many yards he ran, how many times he carried the ball. Sounds like a lot of work to me. But he was a strong boy, that one. He could handle it. He was built for it, you know? Big and strong, like a workhorse.
I don’t know what he’s doin’ now, that Scott Greene. Probably retired, I reckon. They don’t play football forever, you know. They get old, just like the rest of us. But he had his time, that boy. He sure did. He made us all proud, seein’ him out there on that field.
He was a good runner, that Scott Greene. One of the best they had, I reckon. At least, that’s what they said on the TV. And they know about these things, I suppose. They wouldn’t put it on the TV if it weren’t true, would they? No, I don’t think so. He was a good one, that boy. A real good one.
Yeah, he was somethin’ else, that Scott Greene. I remember him well. He was a good football player. He sure was. Maybe I will see him again. He was a good boy. I hope he is happy now. They say he was in the movies, too.
