Okay, so I’ve been digging into this old baseball team, the New York Black Yankees. Man, what a rabbit hole that turned out to be!

I started out just kind of curious, you know? I’d heard the name before, somewhere. Maybe in a documentary, don’t remember. Anyway, I typed “New York Black Yankees” into Google and hit enter. Boom! A whole bunch of stuff popped up.
First, I landed on Wikipedia. Read through the basic stuff – they were around in the early 1900s, played in the Negro Leagues, all that. It was interesting, but pretty surface-level. I wanted more.
So I started clicking around on other sites. I found a few dedicated to the Negro Leagues, and they had some cool old photos and stuff. I spent a good hour just looking at those, imagining what it must have been like back then. Tough times. But they sure could play!
Diving Deeper into Negro Leagues History
Then, I stumbled upon some old newspaper articles that had been scanned in. That was a goldmine! Game reports, player interviews, even some ads for their games. It was like stepping back in time. I printed out a few of them – the ones about Satchel Paige pitching against the Black Yankees in particular. What a legend!
- Spent ages reading the articles, getting a feel for the language.
- Noticed how different the reporting was back then.
- Felt like I was really getting to know these players.
- Bookmarked some sites for more players.
After that, I decided to try and track down some books on the subject. Headed over to my local library’s website. They had a few, so I put them on hold. Gonna pick them up tomorrow.

Honestly, I spent way more time on this than I expected. But it was worth it. I learned a lot, and it really opened my eyes to a part of baseball history that I didn’t know much about. Definitely going to keep digging!
