So, I’m really into football, especially the World Cup. I wanted to find out who was on the Mexico team for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. I mean, it was ten years ago now, but these things stick in your head, right?
First, I started looking around, trying to find some information about the full roster. I was curious about details like who the players were, their jersey numbers, positions, and birthdays. Pretty standard stuff if you’re a football nerd like me.
Then, I stumbled upon some articles talking about the 2014 Copa America. I remember reading that Ecuador and Mexico had a 0-0 draw, which got Ecuador into the quarter-finals. Not directly related to the World Cup, but it got me thinking about that year for Mexico in general.
The big name that jumped out was Rafael Marquez, the captain. The guy was 35 at the time and a real veteran, having played for Mexico since, like, 1997. Over 100 appearances for the national team! That’s insane! I started remembering some of the other players, too, because how could you not remember names like that?
I dug a little deeper and found out that the coach at the time, Miguel Herrera, had picked players from a bunch of different Liga MX clubs and some from other places. That makes sense, trying to get the best of the best, right?
Since it was an official FIFA event, I found more info on the rules. You know, the usual stuff about how many teams were there and the dates. The whole tournament ran from June 12 to July 13, 2014. I even started to remember watching some of the games, they had me on the edge of my seat!
I looked on a sports site to see if they had the full roster listed. They had all the details, like how many matches each player played in and how many minutes they were on the field. Really helpful stuff to get a full picture of the team’s performance.
One thing I remember is that their goalkeeper, Ochoa, was called a “hero” by the coach in one of the matches. He made some crazy saves. It got me thinking about how Mexico’s always been a strong team. They’ve been in the World Cup since 1930 and have won a ton of CONCACAF titles. They’re a big deal in football, no doubt about it.

It was fun piecing this all together and remembering those games. It makes you appreciate all the effort that goes into building a national team for the World Cup.
