Alright, so the other day, I was talking to my friend, and we got into this wild conversation about whether anyone has ever died in the UFC. I mean, it’s a pretty intense sport, right? So I decided, “Hey, I gotta find out more about this.”
So first, I started by just searching around the internet to see what I could find. I read through a bunch of articles and stuff. And, guess what? It turns out, nobody has actually died in the UFC! I mean, how crazy is that? With all those brutal knockouts and submissions, you’d think at least someone would have, you know? But nope, not in the UFC.
But, here’s the kicker, I found out that people have died in other mixed martial arts events, just not in the UFC. Apparently, as of 2023, there have been like twenty deaths in official MMA fights and nine in those unofficial, unregulated ones. It’s pretty sad, honestly. There was even this one guy, Sam Vasquez, who died after a fight in Houston.

And then I found out about a fighter called “Bomba,” Guilherme Vasconcelos, who died at 38, though it didn’t say how. I read that news from his family’s Facebook posts.
Even though MMA is dangerous, I read that it’s actually considered safer than some other fighting sports. Like, boxing and kickboxing apparently have way more head injuries.
Oh, and I also stumbled upon some info about the highest-paid UFC fighter. It’s Conor McGregor, no surprise there. He’s made a ton of money from UFC fights.
What I Learned
So yeah, I went down this rabbit hole of researching UFC deaths, and it was quite a journey. I was really surprised to learn that no one has died in the UFC. But it was also sad to hear about the deaths that have happened in other MMA fights. It just shows how risky these sports can be, even if they’re trying to make them safer.
I shared all this with my friend, and we were both pretty blown away. It’s one of those things that you don’t really think about until you look into it. And now I know way more about UFC and MMA than I ever thought I would! Anyway, I thought I’d share my little investigation with you all. It’s pretty interesting stuff, if you ask me.
