Hey everyone, it’s your guy back again with another story, and let me tell you, this one’s a doozy. It involves baseball, which, as you know, I’m a huge fan of. So, the other day I got it in my head that I wanted to dig deep into this baseball team, the Wilmington Sharks. I’d heard the name before, they’re part of this Coastal Plain League thing, but I didn’t know much beyond that.
First thing’s first, I started with a simple search. Just wanted to get the lay of the land, you know? I found out that the Wilmington Sharks are a summer collegiate baseball team. Basically, college kids playing ball during their summer break, trying to make it big.
Then I got curious about how these teams operate. Turns out, a big part of it is these host families. These awesome folks open up their homes to these young players, giving them a place to stay while they chase their baseball dreams. I thought that was pretty cool, a real community effort.
I also stumbled upon some news about the team. Apparently, they hadn’t played in 2020 because of the whole pandemic mess. Their first game back since then was scheduled to be at home. I bet the whole town was buzzing for that one.
Then, I found this video, an update on the Wilmington High School Baseball team. The host, Jim Boyle, was interviewing six of the seven seniors from the 2024 team. They were talking about their season and all that good stuff. Looked like a tight-knit group of guys, it was some good stuff to watch.
I kept digging and found out more about their achievements. There were pictures of the team with some kind of plaque after they won a game against Peoria Notre Dame, 5-0. And another one where they got a third-place trophy after beating Sterling Newman Catholic, 4-0. Those are really some impressive kids, good job!
Finally, I found out about the team’s affiliation with Wilmington University, which is part of the NCAA Division II and some conference called the CACC. That part was a bit over my head, to be honest. But I’m learning a lot about college baseball structure, and the Sharks belong to the NCAA, so they won’t get paid.
