Alright, so my kid recently got totally hooked on Super Wings. And you know how it goes, suddenly I’m supposed to be an expert on every single character. “Dad, I want the red one!” Okay, that’s Jett, easy. But then it’s “What about the police plane?” or “Who’s that one with the cool gadget?” My head was spinning.
So, I figured I’d better do some digging. My mission, should I choose to accept it, was to learn these Super Wings names. Seemed simple enough, right? Famous last words.
My Deep Dive into the Roster
First thing I realized? There are a LOT of these flying guys. Seriously. I started trying to make a list. I read somewhere that it’s ballooned up to over 30 members. It’s not just a small team anymore. They’ve been adding them batch by batch.
Apparently, there were the original seven. Then, boom, Season 2 drops another four. And it didn’t stop there. Seasons 4 and 5 added more, Seasons 6 and 7 another batch, and even more recently with Season 8. They even have some called “Legendary Super Wings.” Keeping up is a full-time job, I tell ya.
Of course, you’ve got your main dude, Jett. He’s the star, the one delivering packages all over the world. My kid loves Jett. Then there’s this other character I kept hearing about – Golden Boy. This fella is apparently the “clever villain.” Always wants to be the champion, sees Jett as his big rival, and is constantly causing trouble or playing tricks, especially around the World Airport Tower. Typical.
While I was down this rabbit hole of names and transforming planes, I stumbled onto some other bits and pieces. Like, I saw some articles mentioning that the cartoon, which was originally made in South Korea, apparently ran into some kind of snag in China. Something about using incorrect maps in the show. Wild, the stuff you find out when you’re just trying to figure out if Dizzy is the pink one (she is, by the way).
This whole experience of trying to learn all these Super Wings names, it actually reminded me of something completely different. A few years back, my brother-in-law tried to get me into painting those tiny tabletop wargame figures. You know, the ones with super detailed armor and tiny little swords. He had hundreds of them, all with these elaborate names, different factions, and backstories that went on for pages.
He sat me down one afternoon, all excited, trying to explain the lore of the “Shadow Elves of Ghyran” versus the “Ironclad Dwarves of Karak-Norn” or whatever. My eyes just glazed over. It was like trying to learn ancient Sumerian. I bought one little dude, a basic space marine or something, mostly to be polite. Pretty sure it’s still in the box, unpainted, in a drawer somewhere. Some things are just a bit too much effort, you know? You pick your battles. With Super Wings, knowing Jett, Dizzy, Donnie, and that troublemaker Golden Boy is probably good enough for now. My brain capacity for cartoon airplane names is officially full.
So yeah, that’s my journey into the world of Super Wings names. I wouldn’t say I aced it, but I can hold a basic conversation now without looking completely clueless. And that, my friends, is a win in my book.
