So, funny thing happened the other day. I kept seeing the number 66 everywhere. Like, on license plates, the time on the clock, even the page number in a book I picked up randomly. Usually, I don’t pay much mind to stuff like that, think it’s just coincidence, you know?
But it got me thinking. Maybe it’s a nudge, like the universe telling me to look closer at things. I was out in the garage, trying to fix this old wooden chair that’s been wobbly for ages. It’s one of those projects I keep putting off. Anyway, I finally decided, right, let’s get this done.
Getting Down to It
Pulled out the tools, sandpaper, wood glue, the whole nine yards. Felt good actually doing something with my hands. And then, guess what? I needed to reinforce the joints to make it really sturdy. Measured it all out, and the plan I sketched needed exactly 36 small brass screws for the brackets I was adding. Not 35, not 37, but 36. There was that other number popping up right in the middle of my little project.
The whole process took a couple of hours. Here’s kinda how it went down:
- Took the shaky legs apart carefully, marking everything so I knew how it went back.
- Cleaned out the old dried glue and gunk from the joints, that took ages.
- Sanded the connection points smooth for a good fit.
- Figured out where the small metal brackets would give the most support.
- Measured and marked where the 36 tiny screw holes needed to go. Super fiddly work, making sure they lined up.
- Drilled pilot holes first, slow and steady, didn’t want to split the wood.
- Glued the main joints back together, clamped them up tight.
- Then carefully screwed in those 36 brass screws into the brackets. Counted them as I went.
Nothing fancy, just honest work. But while I was doing it, adding those brackets with their 36 screws after seeing 66 all morning, I felt… well, pretty calm. Focused. Like maybe paying attention to the small stuff, the actual doing of things, is the point sometimes. Just getting your hands dirty and fixing something.
The chair’s solid as a rock now. Doesn’t wobble even a little bit. Sits there looking like a proper chair again, ready for use. Seeing those numbers, 66 then 36, probably just a fluke. But fixing that chair felt right. Simple, satisfying. Sometimes that’s all you need, right? Just getting something done and dusted.
