Okay, so I saw the news flash across my screen earlier today. Iowa’s Caitlin Clark nabbed the AP Player of the Year award. Honestly, can’t say I was shocked.

I’ve been trying to catch more women’s college ball lately, and man, she’s just electric to watch. It started casually, maybe saw a highlight clip somewhere, then I made a point to actually tune into a few Iowa games this season. You just kind of had to see what all the fuss was about, right?
And the fuss is real. The way she just pulls up from way downtown, the logo shots… it’s nuts. But it’s not just the scoring. I noticed her passing too. Some real flashy dimes sometimes, getting her teammates involved. It makes their whole offense look dangerous.
My take on it
So when the AP award news came out, my first thought was, “Yep, sounds about right.” I think this is her second time winning it, back-to-back. That’s pretty dominant stuff.
Here’s what stood out to me watching her this year:
- The deep range shooting is obviously insane.
- Her court vision is really something else.
- She seems to have that killer instinct, wants the ball in big moments.
- Brings a ton of energy, good or bad sometimes, but always intense.
After seeing the headline, I actually spent a bit just scrolling through some videos again, some of her top plays from the season. It’s just good basketball. You see the news, you nod, maybe you go back and watch a few clips to remind yourself why she earned it. That was my process today. Simple as that.

It feels like she’s brought a lot more eyes to the women’s game, which is cool. Seeing that kind of talent get recognized, well, it just makes sense. Definitely earned it this year, no doubt in my mind.
