Alright, let’s talk about getting those Strange Coins in Destiny 2. It’s funny, I remember these from the old days, the first game, used to hunt down Xur every weekend for them. Things are a bit different now, of course.

So, I found myself needing some not too long ago. Wanted to grab some gear from Xur’s Treasure Hoard, you know, the place tied to that 30th Anniversary stuff. First, I just played the game, hoping they’d drop like random loot. Did some strikes, ran some Gambit, crucible… nothing. Nada. Zip. Got me scratching my head a bit.
Then I remembered people talking about that Dares of Eternity activity. The weird gameshow thing with Xur and the cosmic horse, Starhorse. Figured I’d give that a shot.
Running Dares of Eternity
So, I loaded into Dares. It’s a six-player thing, usually pretty chaotic but fun in its own way. You basically fight waves of enemies, spin a wheel for bosses, do some obstacle courses. Pretty straightforward stuff.
Here’s the main loop I got into:
- Play Dares of Eternity: Just run the activity. Completing it is key.
- Get Treasure Keys: Finishing a run usually drops a Treasure Key. Sometimes more, depending on luck or if you’re doing the Legend version, but the normal one works fine.
- Use the Key: After the activity, back in Xur’s Treasure Hoard area, there’s a big chest right near Xur. Use the Treasure Key to open it.
Now, this chest doesn’t always give Strange Coins. It drops gear, weapons, that sort of thing. But, I found that every now and then, maybe every few chests I opened, a Strange Coin or two would pop out along with the other loot. It wasn’t a guaranteed thing each time, more like a bonus chance.

Checking Out Starhorse Bounties
While I was hanging around Xur’s spot, I noticed Starhorse offered bounties. Weekly ones and daily ones. They cost Glimmer, nothing too crazy. These ask you to do stuff inside Dares, like get certain types of kills or score points.
I picked up a few, jumped back into Dares, and focused on completing them. Once done, you turn them back into Starhorse.
The reward? These things called Paraversal Hauls. They look like little purple gift boxes in your inventory.
Here’s the kicker: when I opened these Paraversal Hauls, they almost always contained Strange Coins. Sometimes one, sometimes a few. Plus, they also dropped Treasure Keys and other goodies. This felt way more consistent for getting the coins than just opening the chest.
My Routine Now
So, my method became pretty simple:

- Go to Xur’s Treasure Hoard.
- Grab all the daily and weekly bounties from Starhorse I can handle.
- Run Dares of Eternity, focusing on finishing those bounties.
- Use any Treasure Keys I get on the chest after each run (for that small chance).
- Turn in completed bounties to Starhorse.
- Open all the Paraversal Hauls I received.
Doing this loop consistently got me a steady trickle of Strange Coins. It’s not super fast, you gotta put in the time running Dares, but it’s reliable. Grinding those Starhorse bounties and opening the Paraversal Hauls seems to be the most direct path I’ve found personally. Just keep running Dares, grab the bounties, open the boxes. That’s the way.
