Is it easy to travel from Aix-en-Provence to Cassis without a car? (Find out about public transport schedules)

So, I was hanging out in Aix-en-Provence for a bit. Great place, really enjoyed just wandering around on foot, you don’t really need much else to see the main parts. It’s got that relaxed feel, you know? Anyway, I got the itch to see the coast, and everyone talks about Cassis.

Figuring Out the Trip

First thing, how to get there? I didn’t rent a car this time around. Looked into the options. Trains seemed okay, but looked like I’d maybe have to go through Marseille first, which added a step. Then I found out there’s a bus that goes more or less direct from Aix. That sounded much simpler.

Checked it out, seemed like it would take about an hour, give or take. That’s totally doable for a day trip. The cost looked pretty reasonable too, not expensive at all. So, yeah, bus it was. Decided that was the plan.

Making the Journey

Went down to the bus station in Aix, the main one. Found the spot where the bus to Cassis leaves from. Wasn’t too complicated. Had to wait a little while, but nothing major.

Got on the bus when it arrived. I think I just paid the driver directly, simple as that. Found a seat and settled in. The ride itself was fine, pretty straightforward drive. Took about as long as they said, maybe just under an hour? Felt quick enough.

Arriving in Cassis

The bus dropped us off. Now, you’re in Cassis, but not right down by the water where all the famous pictures are from. The stop, I think it’s near the train station maybe, is up the hill a bit from the main port area.

I remembered reading something about a small local bus, the Marcouline I think it’s called, that runs down to the port. Saw some folks heading for that. You could also just walk it. It’s downhill going towards the harbor, so not a bad walk really. I decided to hoof it, take in the surroundings on the way down.

And that was pretty much it. Ended up down by the waterfront, ready to check out the Calanques and grab some lunch. The bus from Aix worked out great, honestly. Pretty smooth process start to finish.
