Tracking Franz Wagner College Stats: A Look at His Performance

Okay, so I found myself wanting to dig into Franz Wagner’s college stats recently. You know, you see him playing in the NBA, doing his thing for Orlando, and sometimes you just get curious about where these guys came from, what their game looked like before they hit the big league.

Getting Started

So, the first thing I did was pretty straightforward. I just opened up my web browser. Nothing fancy. I went to my usual search engine – you know the one. My fingers just typed it out, probably something simple like “Franz Wagner college stats” or maybe “Franz Wagner stats Michigan”. I usually try a couple of variations if the first one doesn’t immediately give me what I’m looking for.

Finding the Numbers

It wasn’t hard to find, honestly. A bunch of sports statistics sites popped up right away. I clicked on one or two that looked reliable, ones I’ve used before. They usually lay it out pretty clearly.

I could see he played for the University of Michigan. That much I already kind of knew, but it was good to confirm. He was there for two seasons, which tracks with what I remembered.

Looking at the Stats

I started jotting down the main stats, the per-game averages mostly. Here’s kind of what I gathered:

  • Freshman Year (2019-2020): He put up decent numbers for a first-year guy. Around 11.6 points per game, grabbed about 5.6 rebounds, and dished out 1 assist per game. Solid start.
  • Sophomore Year (2020-2021): You could see the jump here. His scoring went up a bit to 12.5 points per game. Rebounds increased too, to about 6.5 per game. What really stood out was the jump in assists – up to 3.0 per game. His shooting percentages also looked better across the board, especially his three-point shot.

My Thoughts on It

Looking back at those numbers, it makes sense. You can really see the development between his first and second year, especially as a playmaker and overall contributor. He wasn’t scoring 30 a game or anything crazy, but the stats show that well-rounded game he has now. He was already doing a bit of everything – scoring, rebounding, passing, and we know he played solid defense too (Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year nods don’t just happen).

It wasn’t like some overnight explosion onto the scene. You can track the progress. It’s just interesting sometimes to go back and see the foundation being laid before they hit the NBA spotlight. Gives you a bit more perspective on a player’s journey.
