Okay, so the other day I was just thinking about football history, you know, the big tournaments. And the question popped into my head: how many times did Uruguay actually win the World Cup? I had a vague idea, maybe once? Or was it more? Couldn’t quite place it.

So, I decided to figure it out properly. Wasn’t gonna rely on hazy memory. I grabbed my tablet while sitting on the sofa, just did a quick search. Typed in something simple like “uruguay world cup titles won”. Didn’t take long at all, the info came right up.
Here’s what I found
Turns out, my memory wasn’t totally off, but it wasn’t complete either. They’ve won it twice. Not just once.
- The first time was way back at the very beginning, in 1930. They actually hosted that first ever World Cup, which is pretty cool, and went on to win it.
- Then, they managed it again in 1950. This was the famous one in Brazil, where they beat the hosts in that final match at the Maracanã stadium. Heard that was a massive upset back then.
So yeah, two times. It was interesting to confirm that. It feels like a long time ago now, but winning two World Cups is definitely something, especially for a country of their size. Cleared that little question mark right up for me.
