Okay, so figuring out the legendary Pokemon in Pokemon Go… man, that was a journey. When I first started playing, way back when, you just heard whispers, you know? People talking about Mewtwo, or maybe the bird trio – Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres. But actually seeing them? Forget about it for a long time.
My first real clue was when those special raids started popping up. Suddenly, gyms had these weird eggs with super long timers. Then, BAM! A massive beast would appear. You couldn’t just walk up and catch it like a Pidgey. No way. You needed a whole crowd of people, tapping like crazy on their phones.
I remember my first legendary raid vividly. I think it was a Lugia. Found a group gathering in the park, total strangers, all yelling instructions. We barely beat it, heart pounding. Then came the catching part… oh boy. Throwing those premier balls, hoping it wouldn’t just break free and disappear. Most times, it did. It took ages, and many failed attempts, just to catch one.
Finding them was the real trick early on.
You had to be in the right place at the right time, usually coordinating with others through some online group or chat. It wasn’t like you’d just stumble upon one walking down the street.
So, which ones count as legendary?
From what I’ve gathered over the years playing, these are the kind of guys everyone calls legendary. The list got longer and longer, but these stick out in my memory:
- Articuno
- Zapdos
- Moltres
- Mewtwo
- Raikou
- Entei
- Suicune
- Lugia
- Ho-Oh
- Kyogre
- Groudon
- Rayquaza
- Dialga
- Palkia
- Giratina (both forms!)
- And tons more came later… Zekrom, Reshiram, all those guys.
Then there were the Mythical ones, which felt kinda legendary too, but you got them differently. Like Mew, that came from that long Special Research task chain. Took me forever to finish that. Same with Celebi, Jirachi later on. You didn’t raid for those usually, you earned them through tasks.
Honestly though, things have changed. Back then, seeing a legendary felt truly special, earned through effort and luck. Now? They cycle through raids pretty often. Remote raids mean you don’t even need to leave your house if you got a pass and someone invites you. They still put up a fight, sure, but that feeling of rarity, of legend, isn’t quite the same as it was in the beginning. Still cool to catch ’em, don’t get me wrong, but it’s just… different now. More accessible, I guess. But yeah, that list up there? Those are the big shots everyone was chasing back in the day, and still are, mostly through raids.
