So, I finally decided I’m doing it. The 2025 Austrian Grand Prix. Been talking about it forever, felt like one of those things you always say you’ll do ‘one day’. Well, ‘one day’ is apparently next year.
Getting started was mostly just staring at the calendar, figuring out the dates, and then the big one – convincing myself the cost wasn’t totally insane. It kind of is, let’s be honest. But you only live once, right? That’s what I told myself anyway.
The Ticket Scramble
First proper step was actually getting tickets. This part? A total mess. I knew they’d sell fast. Had the website open, ready to go, the second they went on sale. Clicked refresh like a maniac. The site kept crashing, typical. Felt like I was battling thousands of other hopefuls. It honestly reminded me of trying to get into that one exclusive beta test for a game years ago, just pure frustration and hoping.
After what felt like an eternity, maybe an hour or two, I finally got through. Options were flying off the shelf. Wanted a decent grandstand seat, somewhere with a good view of the main straight or Turn 1. No chance. All gone, or the prices left were eye-watering. Ended up grabbing General Admission tickets. Not ideal, means finding a good spot early and probably standing a lot, but hey, I got tickets. That’s the win. Better than watching from home again.
Finding Somewhere to Crash
Okay, tickets secured. Next challenge: accommodation. Looked at places right near the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg. Wow. Just wow. The prices were absolutely nuts. We’re talking serious money for basic rooms. Made me think back to that time I needed a last-minute hotel for a work thing, got stuck paying a fortune for a place where the shower didn’t even work right. Didn’t want a repeat of that.
Started searching further out. Found a few options, mostly small guesthouses or ‘Zimmer frei’ places in nearby towns. Read some reviews. It’s always a gamble, isn’t it? Pictures look nice, but you never really know. Booked a room in a village about a 30-minute drive away. Seemed reasonable, price-wise. Hopefully it’s clean. That’s my main requirement these days. Clean and a bed that doesn’t feel like a rock.
How to Get There?
Travel plans are still a bit up in the air. Flying into Vienna or Graz seems easiest, then renting a car. But flight prices are looking steep too. Everything related to F1 just seems to have this massive price tag attached. Considered driving the whole way. It’d be a long haul, definitely cheaper on fuel maybe, but adds a couple of days just for travel. Still weighing that up. Need to figure out parking near the track too, heard that can be an adventure in itself.

Why Bother With All This?
It sounds like a lot of hassle, I know. And honestly, parts of it were really annoying. So why do it? Well, I’ve needed something to look forward to. Work’s been pretty demanding, long hours, lots of pressure. Felt like I was just running on empty for a while. This trip feels like hitting a pause button, doing something purely for fun.
It’s not just about the race, either. It’s the whole atmosphere, the noise, the mountains in Austria. Always looks amazing on TV. Felt like I owed it to myself to experience it in person at least once. Sort of like ticking something off a personal list. It’s easy to get bogged down in the day-to-day grind, forget to actually do the things you dream about. Like that time I passed up on a chance to travel when I was younger because I thought I needed to be ‘sensible’ and save money. Regretted that later.
So yeah, planning’s mostly done. Tickets bought, room booked. Now it’s just the long wait until 2025. Already picturing it. Hopefully it lives up to the hype I’ve built in my head. Fingers crossed for good weather and a good race!
