Right, so I saw folks talking about the Marshall versus Old Dominion game the other day. It got me thinking, not really about the teams themselves, you know, but about the whole college scene. These matchups, the rivalries, it often means one school is here, the other is way over there.

It kinda threw me back to this one particular experience I had years ago, totally unrelated to football, but triggered by that thought of distance and logistics. It was when I had to move out of my old apartment. Man, what a process that turned out to be.
The Great Moving Debacle
I figured, how hard could it be? Rent a truck, get a couple buddies, knock it out in a day. Simple. Wrong.
First off, I totally underestimated how much junk I actually owned. Seriously, where does it all come from? Started packing boxes thinking I’d need maybe twenty. Ended up closer to fifty, and running out of tape constantly.
Then came the truck rental. Got there, and the size I reserved wasn’t available. Of course. Had to take a bigger one, which cost more and was a pain to drive down those narrow city streets later.
And my buddies? Well, let’s just say life happens.

- Friend number one called in sick (pretty sure he wasn’t).
- Friend number two had a “family emergency” pop up last minute.
So, it was mostly just me and my significant other staring at a mountain of boxes and furniture. We decided to push through. Loading that truck was pure sweat and agony. That old couch? We nearly gave up on it halfway down the stairs. And don’t get me started on the mattress – felt like wrestling a giant marshmallow.
Driving the oversized truck was nerve-wracking. Every turn felt like I was piloting a whale. Found the new place, parked (illegally, for a bit, let’s be honest), and then realized… the unloading. It was somehow worse than loading. We were already exhausted. Everything felt twice as heavy.
We finally got everything inside, sort of. Boxes piled everywhere. Stuff was dusty. Something definitely got scratched. We collapsed on the floor, too tired to even order pizza. Just sat there amidst the chaos.
Looking Back
It took days, maybe even weeks, to fully unpack and feel settled. Finding things was a nightmare. But we did it. Piece by piece, box by box.
So yeah, seeing Marshall vs Old Dominion pop up just made me remember that whole moving saga. Funny how brains work. Makes you appreciate the simple things, like just sitting on a couch (one that’s already in place!) and watching a game, instead of hauling it across town. Definitely less stressful.
