Man Flying on Drone: Is This the Future of Travel?

Okay, so I saw this crazy video online of a guy flying on a drone, and I just had to try it. I mean, who wouldn’t? It looked insane!

The Build

First things first, I needed a drone. Not just any drone, though, this thing had to be a beast. I started digging around online, looking at forums, watching YouTube videos, basically becoming a drone expert overnight. I ended up going with a custom build, figuring I could get exactly what I needed that way.

  • Frame: I chose a super strong carbon fiber frame. It needed to be able to handle my weight, plus some extra for, you know, safety.
  • Motors: These were the big boys. I went with some high-powered brushless motors, the kind they use for racing drones, but bigger.
  • Propellers: Big and sturdy. Again, carbon fiber. No messing around with cheap plastic here.
  • Batteries: I needed a ton of power, so I got a bunch of high-capacity lithium polymer batteries.
  • Flight Controller: This is the brains of the operation. I got one that was programmable, so I could tweak things as needed.
  • Everything Else: ESCs (Electronic Speed Controllers), a receiver, a transmitter, all that good stuff.

Putting it all together was… challenging. I’m not gonna lie, there were a few moments where I thought I was in way over my head. But I stuck with it, double-checked all the connections, and finally, I had a giant, powerful drone sitting in my garage.

First Attempts (and Failures)

My first few attempts were… not graceful. Let’s just say I spent a lot of time picking the drone out of bushes. I started by just trying to get it to hover a few feet off the ground. It was way harder than it looked in the videos! The thing was so powerful, it just wanted to shoot off into the sky.

I tweaked the settings on the flight controller, practiced my throttle control, and slowly, slowly, I started to get the hang of it. It was a lot like learning to ride a bike, but with the added risk of falling from a significant height.

Actually Flying!

After weeks of practice (and a few minor crashes), I finally felt ready to try actually “flying” it. I strapped myself onto a makeshift harness I built (probably not the safest thing, but hey, I was committed!), took a deep breath, and cranked up the throttle.

And… it worked! I was lifted off the ground, slowly at first, then higher and higher. The feeling was incredible! It was like floating, but with this raw power underneath me. I’m not gonna say I was soaring like an eagle, more like wobbling like a drunken penguin, but I was flying.

I kept the first flight short and sweet, just a few minutes of hovering and some gentle movements. But it was enough. I had done it. I had flown on a drone!

It’s still very much and always will be a work in progress as the days go by!
